Sometimes called physical mindfulness, embodiment can create a greater awareness of how your mental and emotional state impact your body and bring a greater sense of presence to your daily movement through life. For movement artists it can bring a new layer of physical expression to your dance and music, and increase your ability to bodily manifest a thought or idea.
This non-performance movement workshop will use techniques such as guided physical meditation, mindfulness, rhythmic exploration and authentic movement to help students create a greater sense of physical embodiment and foster a more seamless connection between mind and body.
Post workshop exercises that will help students build their embodiment practice at home will also be offered. The workshops are conducted to live music.
No dance experience is required. The workshops are open to students of all movement backgrounds. You will want to wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement. You may also want to bring a notebook and a water bottle.
In order to facilitate free exploration, we seek to create a safe space for all types of dancers and movement artists to explore creative expression. The class is open to all genders and movement forms.
